Baseball

I got to see B pitch tonight. He pitched two innings and struck out 3 batters holding them to 0 runs in his second inning. Plus, he got a home run later in the game. It was a good baseball night for B.

Last baseball of the summer

Last Sunday, DH & I went to B's baseball tournament in Waxahachie. It was a stinking hot day. They lost both games on Saturday, so I wasn't expecting to be there long. I planned to be home by noon and organize closets in the boys rooms. They won the first game, so my plans for the day were done since we had several hours between games. Unfortunately, they lost the second game. Good for me, sad for the boys. B had a great tournament and had fun. Since we hadn't had enough baseball, we were home in time to go to dollar ice cream day at the Rangers!

The boys stayed behind at the lake for another week of fun. They went tubing of course. However the new game was jumping from tube to tube. Crazy boys! Thank heavens I wasn't there for that. They went on a long boat ride to Big Cedar Lodge for lunch. B went to a week long sleep away baseball camp with his cousin. It was 5 days of baseball, baseball, baseball. He loved it! J stayed at the lake with Pa Pa & Grandma. He fished and fished some more. He came home with 5 bags of the fish he caught so he can have his own fish fry. He loved it too!

baseball tournaments

B played on a new baseball team this summer. They put together boys from two teams at his school to play a couple of tournaments. The first tournament they played well and were the second seed at the end of the first day, but they were rained out on the second day.

The second tournament was against some tougher competition but they won both games and were seeded 4th or 5th.

They went back to play on Sunday but lost a close game and were out.

At least they still had a sense of humor, goofy 8 year olds!

The family took advantage of the free afternoon and headed out to the lake.

Activities

Spring is here. Weather is more often warm than not. Kids are busy.

B is playing soccer, flag football & baseball.  I've been talking way more than taking pictures, but I did remember my camera last Saturday.

J is suppose to be playing golf and baseball but he's had problems with his elbow. After some rest, he tried playing baseball last week.

After the game, his elbow hurt again. We went to the doctor this week and he got a shot. We'll see if it helps.

A is busy dancing. They had a performance last weekend.

She also won first place in the Catholic Daughter's of America essay and poetry contest. She got $50 for each award, but she had to go read them to the ladies.

I think I'm looking forward to summer and fewer activities and slower pace. Or I can at least dream about it.

The Big Trip

We went on The Big Trip this month. It has been in the works since late last summer. The Big Trip was a Disney Cruise to Alaska bookended by visits to Seattle, Whistler, BC and Vancouver. We were joined by all of the ILs and S#2's family. It was perfect.

There was too much to cover in a single post, so this is going to have to be a series.

Day 1 : Seattle

We flew out early Thursday morning to Seattle.

 photo 20130711_093740_1_zps434f2265.jpg

We dropped out luggage in the hotel room and headed straight to an afternoon baseball game. Of course, we went to a baseball game. Mariners v Red Sox.

Safeco was a nice ballpark, it felt much smaller than the Ballpark. I did have to walk a very long way to find a hotdog. They had all kinds of other selections which sounded great but the boys asked for hotdogs. I guess I'm spoiled by the Ballpark were practically every stand sells hotdogs. It was a good game. Mariners won. Boys & DH got souvenirs. A said she had enough sports t-shirts and she doesn't really like sports.

After baseball, we headed to Pyramid Brewing across the street. We met my college friends and their family. It was an exciting visit because DH & I got to meet our goddaughter and B got to meet his godmother. It was such a great evening. We spent hours talking. When we finally stopped and said our goodbyes, it was late. We were a block or so away from the restaurant when we realized that we never took pictures. I guess that means we have to go back to Seattle or they need to come to Dallas or we need to meet somewhere in between.

Father's Day

A week ago was Father's Day. We started off the day by going to mass on Saturday night. Nothing better than sleeping in on your day. I planned to let DH sleep awhile, but life intervened. Some how, someone left the back freezer door open all night. (And it wasn't the kids and it wasn't me!) Oops. We got up early and started cleaning up the mess. DH had gone to Sam's Club/Costco a week or two before and we had a freezer stocked with meat that had all defrosted. I cooked 5 lbs of ground beef by 9am.

After dealing with the freezer, we headed out to breakfast with FIL at Pete's.

Of course it is a big day, so we went to the baseball game. S#2 & family, S#5 & my dad joined us. It was a hot one. Half the family had seats in the sun and half had seats in the shade. I switched back and forth.

S#5 & J enjoyed a 2 foot long pretzel.

It wasn't a great game. We finally succumbed to the heat and the loss and left at the top of the 8th. Since we had meat to cook, the family came over to eat burgers for dinner.

I meant to take pictures of dad with the sisters. And a picture of DH and the kids. I didn't. We got this one right before the kids went to bed.

Happy Father's Day, DH!  I hope you had a good one.

summer so far

A&J are in DECATS for three weeks again this year. I put B in camps too so he would be busy and DH might be able to get some work done. The first week was golf camp. J did this camp for a couple of years. It is a good one and B had fun. I'll brag on him because he got the best driver and best putter award.

Last week he went to football camp. Not my favorite thing, but he had a fabulous time. He was camper of the day the first day and got a real game worn jersey. The last day they got to run through the blowup helmet like the football players do before each game.

This week he's going to basketball camp. A&J have their last week at DECATS. From what I've heard they are both enjoying it too. Maybe they will have some photo worthy events at the end of the week so the blog won't be do B-focused.

 photo 20130607_192235_1_zpsdeff8fa5.jpg

Baseball is finishing up this week. Both boys have 2 games and it's over. Yeah! That's J hitting in his last game with the Carrollton-Farmer Branch league. He got the first hit I saw (and maybe he had) in the spring season. Luckily, I think he's over the mental block he had going and he's hitting better on the Y league team.

Once camps and baseball are done. DH & the kids & the dog are heading to the lake for the 4th. I'm staying home this year. I don't have enough vacation at the new job to make it this year. Next year. I'm disappointed but I'm also looking forward to a week alone. I won't have to feed or do laundry for anyone. I can go to bed whenever I want, and it will probably be early. I can watch whatever tv I want and never change the channel when commercials come on. The little things I will enjoy.

Sunday Baseball Game

After the trip to the Aquarium, B & I met the rest of the family at the ball park. It was BIL#2's birthday.  It was also the first day of hot in Texas. I'm not complaining that the first day of hot was June 2nd, but it was hot. S#2 & I suffered through in our seats in the sun. Several of the others found seats in the shade.

DH's childhood baseball hero, George Brett, was at the game with the Royals. He and Nolan Ryan were on the field for something.

I took a picture of DH taking a picture.

The kids tried to get a free t-shirts from the girls with the t-shirt slingshot. No luck despite their enthusiasm.

It was dollar ice cream day. The Rangers came back to win the game. It was a good afternoon for all.
