Last Y Guides Campout

DH participated in Y Guides with both the boys. Neither of the groups was super involved, mostly just participating in the 2 campouts each year. DH & B had their last campout the first weekend of March.

DH & B spent the weekend at Possum Kingdom lake. It was busy. They went on long hikes, a boat ride, played football, shot bb guns, rode horses, went to the archery range, and ate s'mores. B even went in the lake. It was November 2nd and he went swimming. Crazy 7 year old.

Alabama game

DH's birthday was 10 days ago. For his birthday, he found tickets to the A&M/Alabama game on StubHub. He called me up to tell me he bought his birthday present.

He flew down to Houston meet BIL#2 on Friday. They went to the Astros game on that night and headed to College Station Saturday morning.

He, BIL & BIL's boss had a good time tailgating and hanging out on Northgate. About an hour before the start, they headed into the stadium. When the first ticket scanned, the scanner said "STOP". The ticket guy sent them them to the ticket office. Sure enough, the tickets were counterfeit. It was not a happy situation. The ticket lady was very nice. She offered to sell them tickets at face value. What a stroke of luck. The tickets were better seats, in the shade and less than1/3 the price he paid for tickets on StubHub.

They were finally in the stadium ready to watch a good football game. After all they went through to get to the game, it would have been nice to have the comeback win. Almost.

On the way home to Dallas, DH called StubHub to figure out what they could do about the counterfeit tickets. StubHub was just as great as the Aggie Ticket Office. They immediately credited our credit card for the cost of the tickets he purchased. They also gave him a StubHub credit for the cost of the replacement tickets they purchased that day. Nice customer service, StubHub!

Horse Races

A week or so ago, we went to the horse races. It was a 'Night Out with Friends' party from the school auction. There were 10 couples in an air-conditioned suite at the finish line. Pretty sweet.

DH & I made lots of bets and didn't do very well. I was convinced that I was going to win in the 5th. There was a horse named Bernies Princess. That is S#2's first name so it had to be a winner. I made the huge bet of $5.00 to win. It was a sure thing.

Unfortunately another horse came up on the outside at the very end and Bernies Princess came in second. I should have bet $5 to place instead!

I did end up getting an exacta in the 8th race. I picked The Tip and New Hire and won $45.00. I also picked a horse to show in the 10th race and won a couple of dollars. Poor DH didn't win a single bet, that's what he gets for playing the superfecta.

It was a fun night out with friends. Hopefully we'll get to go again next year.

Father's Day

A week ago was Father's Day. We started off the day by going to mass on Saturday night. Nothing better than sleeping in on your day. I planned to let DH sleep awhile, but life intervened. Some how, someone left the back freezer door open all night. (And it wasn't the kids and it wasn't me!) Oops. We got up early and started cleaning up the mess. DH had gone to Sam's Club/Costco a week or two before and we had a freezer stocked with meat that had all defrosted. I cooked 5 lbs of ground beef by 9am.

After dealing with the freezer, we headed out to breakfast with FIL at Pete's.

Of course it is a big day, so we went to the baseball game. S#2 & family, S#5 & my dad joined us. It was a hot one. Half the family had seats in the sun and half had seats in the shade. I switched back and forth.

S#5 & J enjoyed a 2 foot long pretzel.

It wasn't a great game. We finally succumbed to the heat and the loss and left at the top of the 8th. Since we had meat to cook, the family came over to eat burgers for dinner.

I meant to take pictures of dad with the sisters. And a picture of DH and the kids. I didn't. We got this one right before the kids went to bed.

Happy Father's Day, DH!  I hope you had a good one.

Opening Day 2013

Last week we went to the Rangers home opener.  DH of course had us early, we got to the ballpark about 9:30 and we got the last parking spot on grass in the whole of parking lot A. I guess I should stop giving him a hard time about getting up early. Even though I really wanted to sleep in. DH got his tailgate setup in place and got brats on the grill by 10am.

The kids were being goofy. A wildly cheered on her cousins playing cornhole. The boys refused to take a normal picture, so I'm putting these pictures of them on the blog. So there! Next time maybe they will smile.

They did pose for a group photo with BIL#2 before we went into the stadium.

Our seats were under the overhang, not the best for taking pictures of the field, but here's opening pitch (or maybe I was busy talking and missed the opening pitch and this is the 4th or 5th pitch of the game, maybe.)

 photo 20130405_130905_1_zpsb70b2982.jpg

We won the game and there was more goofiness from the kids.

 photo 20130405_155751_1_zps28cc8580.jpg

It took me a whole week to get this on the blog. I went back to work full time 3 weeks ago and the blog is suffering. I need to keep it up. It is a good record of our lives. The other night at dinner, the kids were talking about something and B wanted to know how old he was when it happened. The answer was to look it up on the blog. I never filled in a baby book, but I have a lot of family stuff recorded here, like Opening Day 2012, Opening Day 2011, Opening Day 2010, and my favorite (definitely worth the extra click!) Opening Day 2008.  I don't know what happened to 2009. Either we didn't go, or most likely, I didn't go so I didn't blog about it. I'm going to have to make the effort to keep this up.

Weigh the Dog

The cousins have a huge black lab, Chinook. Last Friday, BIL#2 decided to find out how much Chinook weighs. It involved DH & the dog & a scale.

It didn't work very well, but we all (well, except for Chinook) had a good laugh.

Night at the (Perot) Museum

They opened a new Science and Nature Museum in downtown Dallas in December. It looks really cool, but we haven't been yet. We've thought about it but it has been so popular, it is hard to get tickets on weekend afternoons. Thanks to Y Guides, DH & B spent the night last Friday night.

They kept the kids & dads busy doing activities until midnight. That was late for the little guy (and the big guy too) especially since he had soccer playoffs starting at 10am in the next morning. B had fun, stayed up late, pulled through and played well in the morning. He's young and only 7, they can still pull that off at seven. DH, on the other hand, was exhausted.

Pinewood Derby '13

Yesterday was the Pinewood Derby. It was B's first year in it for real. J isn't in scouts this year but DH made him a car also. I shouldn't say that DH made the car, the boys helped saw and sand and paint, but DH did a lot of work setting the wheel so they ran straight.

Congrats to B and DH for a 4th place finish. They missed 3rd place by 1/100th of a second. J's car didn't do so great. He blames it on B who dropped it when they were taking it in to weigh.

Catching up

I haven't blogged in awhile. Here's what happened in the last week or so.

B got to carry the gifts up at mass. You can see the new look of the church. Someday we'll have real pews.

Photobucket

B was scientist of the week. They did a jumping pepper experiment explaining static electricity.

J had a sleepover party. We cancelled the first one over Christmas because of the flu. He was excited to have another. Nothing was planned except flashlight tag. Luckily, they found stuff to do.

You know you are in Texas when a bunch of 4th grade boys come over and play Alamo. They were all fighting over who had to be the Texans and who got to be the Mexicans. Here they are storming the Alamo.

And enthusiastically singing happy birthday.

J built a robot with his lego mindstorms set.

He's sad that a month after he got it, they came out with a new set that will interact with an ipod touch.

A has been up to her same old things, dance, school, reading, avoiding my camera.

DH & I went on a lunch date to Jimmy's Food Store. While our sandwiches were being made, I checked out all the Italian goodies.

We went down to the new Clyde Warren deck park downtown, sat in the sun to eat our lunch, strolled through the park and bought a cookie ice cream sandwich from one of the food trucks.
