I'm finally getting around to posting about Halloween.

Halloween. It was a kind of a crazy rushed day. I worked. B had a half day. A went to Ranger Day at Jesuit and then helped with intramuals decorations. J had a full day of school. When I got home, A was already over at the cousins' house to hang out with her friends. She took her pumpkin with her. The boys had already carved their pumpkins but I didn't get pictures with them lit. I took pictures of  the boys before DH & B headed over to a halloween party & I dropped J off at a friend's house. When I finally made it to the party, it was crazy busy with kids everywhere. It was Halloween on a Friday night so everyone came. Last year B played too much and was upset at the end of the night because of he lack of candy. I walked with him and his friends trick or treating so we didn't have that issue this year. A & her friends came trick or treating at the party. J was dropped off at the end of the night. He had fun with his friends and 3 lbs of candy. Luckily, by then, the boys were tired and I could go home.

We ended up with an afternoon free on the last day of the Fair. A was at Six Flags with the church youth group, so the rest of us headed out. We took the obligatory walk through the auto show where the boys checked out sports cars. B practiced his Heisman stance. Next on the list was corny dogs.

We spent way too much time in the midway. B played lots of games. J tried multiple times on the shoot the star with the bb gun game. He came very close, maybe next year. They both rode the bumper cars and B rode a couple of little rides. He's still my little boy who loves motorcycles.

On our way out we walked back through the auto show so the boys could drive a simulation video game. They ended up being too short. We found a pinball machine instead and played for free. I was the queen of pinball and beat them all. All the boys want a machine at home!

We grabbed an ice cream on the way out. It was a great visit to the Fair.

A went to a football game. J went backpack camping with the Boy Scouts. B played his last baseball game of the season. It was a good Friday night.

End of the Year

The boys had to go to school for a week longer than A. They were excited for it to be over. The last day is mass, awards ceremony & 10:30 release.

Since A had her post of graduation accolades, I have to make a post for the boys.

J got two awards, one for reading & one for art. Cousin M got one for religion.

I found out that when I got home, J actually got the award for science. The same teacher teaches both classes and I guess there was a mixup.

In 2nd grade, they don't do academic awards. B's teacher did make up awards for each kid. B got the Daring Dancer Award, because he's never afraid to "Bust a Move"

It was a good school year for everyone, but we're looking forward to a nice break for the summer.

Musical talent

B's class had a jazz concert last week. It only included the 2nd & 3rd grades, so it was not too long. The first song, B was a behind a tall girl in a hat. The second song B was behind a curtain and we couldn't even see him.

I videotaped it anyway because I don't want to be accused of neglecting the 3rd child in the future.

B is in the top row center. You can occasionally see his head peak out from behind the tall girl in the pink shirt & black hat.

J had his band concert on Wednesday morning. I tried to take a picture but he pulled his music stand so it would block his face. I snuck to the back of the stage and took a short video of one of their songs. The bass & trombone section of the school band is excellent!

Activities

Spring is here. Weather is more often warm than not. Kids are busy.

B is playing soccer, flag football & baseball.  I've been talking way more than taking pictures, but I did remember my camera last Saturday.

J is suppose to be playing golf and baseball but he's had problems with his elbow. After some rest, he tried playing baseball last week.

After the game, his elbow hurt again. We went to the doctor this week and he got a shot. We'll see if it helps.

A is busy dancing. They had a performance last weekend.

She also won first place in the Catholic Daughter's of America essay and poetry contest. She got $50 for each award, but she had to go read them to the ladies.

I think I'm looking forward to summer and fewer activities and slower pace. Or I can at least dream about it.

Christmas Programs

We had three Christmas programs before school let out for break. First up was J & M in the band concert.

You can listen to them play if you wish.

I'd say they aren't bad for 1 clarinet, 4 saxophones, a trombone and bass guitar.

Last Monday was the grades K-3 program. It was something about spies and stopping someone from hating Christmas. I don't really know because you couldn't actually hear a thing.  But B looked cute in his spy get up.

And they got to visit Santa.

Tuesday night was the grades 4-6 program. Again it was hard to hear and figure out what was going on. It was something about time travel. Strange.

B was responsible for taking that last video. I apologize in advance

I personally prefer a traditional concert with traditional songs with fewer dance moves. Maybe word will get back to the school before next year.

football & flight

i'm so slow on blogging these days. blme that silly full time job. i know when i'm behind when the husband sends me pictures from his phone. here's some from last week. b had a soccer tournament. i spent friday & saturday driving out to bfe at ungodly hours to watch 7 year olds kick the ball around.

saturday, while i was enjoying soccer, j& dh went to enjoy a day at smu. friends had great parking spots, tailgating on the boulevard and catered suite for the game.

they had fun, so much fun, that the husbands, who i thought were going to take the boys to the 8pm game on saturday night, decided it would be better if the wives drove the little boys instead. fun, more soccer! (Actually, it was good game and i like watching b play. it's just fun to give dh a hard time.)

wednesday this week, dh took b on a cub scout outing to the frontiers of flight museum.

i think they had fun except b spent too much time playing in the ejector seat and missing the tour inside the big plane. tears ensued.

i need to work on my vocabulary, i overused fun.

Bearcat 5k

While B & DH were camping, A, J, & I had a quiet weekend. We didn't have big plans except for the Bearcat 5k on Saturday morning.

The race was organized by a few of the 8th graders as a service project and they raised $2000 for Care Van. Impressive.

Autumnfest 2013

Last Saturday was AutumnFest. It was a busy day. At 6am as I was getting ready for the day, I realized it was too busy. My schedule:
  • 7am DPL cross country meet
  • 8:30 DH - Autumnfest
  • 11:30 J's band concert at Autumnfest
  • 12:00 A volunteer at Autumnfest
  • 12:30 B soccer game in PFE Plano
  • 2:30 J baseball game in PFE Carrollton
  • 4:00 Me volunteer at Autumnfest
  • 7:00 Me volunteer at Autumnfest
There was no way I was going to be able to get B to the soccer game, get B from the soccer game, J to the baseball game, get J from the baseball game and make it in time to volunteer at the school. DH was in charge the beer tent and was stuck at the school all day. He was able to able to sneak away after the band concert to get J home and changed for the baseball game. Friends took him to the game. I called my father in to pick him up and bring him back to Autumnfest. DH paid him back for his trouble with a couple of beers from the beer tent.
